Restore / add dedicated right-turn pocket
When right-turning vehicles back up into the through lane, a dedicated right-turn pocket lets them queue out of the way, cutting delay and rear-end risk, provided the crossing is kept short and protected for people on foot.
Evidence
Rear-end / angle crashes: roughly 20-55% reduction in applicable CMF contexts.
Backfires when
It widens the pedestrian crossing without a refuge or encourages faster turns past a crosswalk.
Needs
Turning-movement counts; queue / blocked-turn events; available curb-to-curb width.
